Where Does Best Dried Garlic Begin? ShunDi’s Answer: Regenerative Farming

2025-05-09

What makes great garlic? At ShunDi, we believe it starts long before harvest—right in the soil. In southwest Shandong, one of China’s key garlic-growing regions, we’re putting regenerative agriculture into practice to grow better, healthier garlic from the ground up.

At our certified farms, we are committed to sustainable, science-backed farming by gradually replacing synthetic fertilizers with natural, organic ones derived from plant and animal sources. While chemical fertilizers may deliver quick results, they often damage soil health over time—causing compaction, reduced biodiversity, and higher disease risk. In contrast, organic inputs are gentler on the earth, improving soil structure, supporting beneficial microbes, and restoring long-term fertility. This slower, more balanced approach helps us grow garlic that’s stronger, more resilient, and rooted in healthier, more productive fields.

To make sure farmers are on board and informed, we take education straight to the fields. ShunDi runs hands-on workshops and field training, inviting experts to teach everything from soil health to yield-boosting strategies. Sessions like “Managing Key Growth Stages,” “The 4Rs of Nutrient Management,” and “The Future of Regenerative Farming” have helped local growers see that science-backed farming really does make a difference. As one farmer put it, “You can actually see the change when you start farming smart.”

One of the core principles we teach is the “4R Nutrient Stewardship” approach:

Right Source – using the right kind of fertilizer

Right Time – applying it when the plant needs it

Right Rate – not too much, not too little

Right Place – putting it exactly where it’s needed

This framework may sound technical, but it’s very practical. Once farmers understand how to analyze soil nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, they can apply fertilizers in a much more targeted and efficient way. The result? Garlic seedlings grow stronger, root deeper, and develop more evenly—leading to steadier, healthier yields.

Of course, we don’t just rely on theory—we track results. For every plot we work with, we record GPS data, collects soil samples, and monitors crop growth throughout the season. The data shows real progress: soils with organic inputs are looser, richer in organic matter, and teeming with microbial life. That’s not only great for this year’s harvest—it means the land stays productive for years to come.

And the garlic speaks for itself. Grown in healthier soil, our garlic bulbs are not only higher-yielding but also store better and hold quality longer, making them perfect for processing into premium dried garlic products. At our advanced facilities, we turn this garlic into clean, natural, and additive-free ingredients that meet the highest food safety standards.

At ShunDi, we’re combining technology, experience, and sustainability to bring more long-term value to every clove of garlic. By investing in soil health and farmer knowledge, we’re laying a solid foundation for the future of garlic farming—and for the quality of every dried ingredient we produce.

We’re proud to support farmers, protect the land, and grow garlic that’s not only better for business, but better for the planet. And we’re just getting started.
