Fertilizer plays a vital role in supporting crop growth and agricultural productivity. As sustainability becomes an increasingly important priority in modern agriculture, conventional fertilizer practices are facing challenges. Excessive use of chemical fertilizers can contribute to soil degradation, water pollution, and broader environmental impacts.

Organic fertilizer offers a practical approach to improving soil health while supporting more sustainable farming systems. By enhancing the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soil, it helps improve nutrient availability, promotes healthier crop growth, and contributes to the long-term resilience of agricultural ecosystems.

What Is Organic Fertilizer?

Organic fertilizer is derived from natural materials such as plant residues, animal manure, and other biodegradable organic matter. Through natural decomposition or microbial fermentation, these materials are transformed into nutrient-rich fertilizer with a high organic matter content. In addition to supplying essential nutrients, organic fertilizer helps improve soil structure, supports beneficial microbial activity, and enhances the soil's capacity to retain water and nutrients.

However, sustainable agriculture is not simply about replacing chemical fertilizers with organic alternatives. Effective nutrient management requires balancing soil conditions, crop requirements, and local growing environments to develop farming practices that are both productive and environmentally responsible.

Supporting Healthier Garlic Production Through Regenerative Agriculture

For garlic cultivation, maintaining consistent yields and quality depends not only on good farming practices but also on healthy, fertile soil. Since 2024, Shundi has been advancing a regenerative agriculture project in China's major garlic-growing region of Shandong Province. The project focuses on improving soil health, increasing resource-use efficiency, and strengthening the long-term resilience of garlic production, helping build a more sustainable and reliable garlic supply chain.

Organic Fertilizer as a Key Project Practice

The application of organic fertilizer is one of the core practices within the project. To support participating growers, Shundi provides organic fertilizer free of charge while offering agronomic training, soil assessment, and field technical guidance. These combined efforts help farmers adopt more science-based fertilizer management practices and reduce reliance on conventional fertilization methods, improving the long-term productivity of their farmland.

The project also places strong emphasis on continuous field support. By monitoring on-farm implementation and collecting feedback from participating growers, Shundi provides practical recommendations tailored to the conditions of individual fields. Through ongoing guidance and follow-up, the project encourages farmers to move beyond one-time fertilizer applications toward more systematic and sustainable soil management practices.

Building a More Sustainable Agricultural Future

Organic fertilizer is only one part of Shundi's regenerative agriculture initiative. The project also promotes science-based nutrient management, environmentally friendly mulching materials, and other regenerative farming practices that help shift agricultural production from focusing solely on short-term yields toward improving soil health and long-term sustainability.
